Above: Jax, age 2½, shows off his new mask. Each mask is handmade, by me. I use the fabrics you choose, and I make a mask that is a good fit. I start with two layers of pre-washed quilting cotton, with an optional inner layer constructed as a filter pocket. There are two styles, and several strap options. All my mask styles have a sturdy, flexible nose band to help you acheive a good fit.
If a mask is not comfortable, and possible to breathe through, it is difficult to keep it on all day.
A good fit is essential, both to keep a mask from slipping off and creating a snug fit, with no air gaps. A mask that is too small can be uncomfortable to wear.
There are three key measurements for choosing a size. Using a measuring tape, or a narrow strip of paper, and then measure the marks.
1. Measure from the bridge of your nose, down to the turn of your chin.
2. Measure from the outer side of one cheekbone, across the bridge of your nose, to the other outer side of the other cheekbone.
3. Measure head circumference: around the head, at the widest point (usually around the brow, level to the back of the skull.)

I now offer over 500 different 100 cotton fabrics inlarge and small prints as well as many solid colors. Select fabric choices by number. You will be able to write in up to three fabric choices, in the order of preference, when you check out. I will use the first one you list, if possible. If none of your choices are avaialble, I will get in touch about other options.

First step shape the nose bridge. It may have been folded sharply in half for shipping, so first flatten it. Put the mask on, with the top on the bridge of you nose. Then carefully shape it to your nose, and press it along the bones under your eyes. This provides a good fit, reducing air gaps. This is especially important if you are wearing glasses, as they will fog, if your breath is escaping there.
The elastic head loops need no adjusting, but the top one should be above your ears. If you have the adjustable cloth straps. adjust them to fit to fit snugly above your ears, and around your head.
You can hand or machine wash these masks, but I recommend untying the ties or loosening the slipknots, and then washing inside a laundry bag to keep it from tangfling with other wash items. Your mask nose bridge can be removed, but it is not necessary to remove it. It may come out in the process of washing, in which case you can re-insert it. Fold it in half first to make this step easier.
If your mask has any elastic in it, DO NOT BLEACH, and I recommend avoiding the dryer, or in the very least, avoiding prolonged high heat.
If your mask has no elastic in it, bleach will probably affect the color initally, and if used repeatedly, it can age and weaken the fabric.
I am often asked what material I recommend to use as a filter. I recommend you do some research as to what you want to use.
